Ben Loyal, known as the Queen of Scottish Mountains, stands proudly above the Kyle of Tongue and the village of Tongue on Scotland’s North Coast. One of Scotland’s finest small mountains, it looks impressively difficult from most directions, but it pays all that effort back in the joy of acheiving the views from the top.

The walk is at least 15km (to the highest point), but if the group wishes we can take in more of the four main summits. It is off path for most of the route, and strenuous for all of the climb. Suitable only for fit and motivated walkers. Good walking footwear with a good tread essential! This is a full day mountain walk, with all the accompanying requirements. Good waterproofs, warm layers, lunch, a drink and snacks; a willing heart and mind, and a good sense of humour.

The walk is led by Jim, one of our Education and Engagement Officers, who is a Mountain Leader, a member of the local Mountain Rescue, and at his happiest when given a reason to take people up a hill, look at the scenery and tell people why it matters.

This walk is weather dependent, due to the distance and difficulty. Places are limited for a better experience. Booking essential.

Parking is available at the start of the walk, Ribigill Farm. Turn off the back road from Tongue to Kinloch and park in the obvious parking area just after the turn off. Grid Reference: NC 58427 54682 (w3w:///incisions.snipe.slamming). If the weather is very good, this car park can become busy, so car sharing is recommended.
